BRICK – An unoccupied home caught fire, resulting in no injuries, and the case is still under investigation.
The fire at 78 Cedar Island Drive took place at around 6:30 a.m. on May 8, the Brick Township Bureau of Fire Safety reported.
The home was unoccupied and had recently undergone reconstruction, they said. Residential fire sprinklers were installed during the reconstruction, which are required in some rebuilt or larger homes.
A sprinkler in both a second and third floor bedroom went on, which slowed the fire, reducing the damage before the firefighters arrived, they said.
District 1 was the first on scene, and they called in the other Brick companies and mutual aid.
The fire appears to have begun on the lower exterior of the home and traveled up and inward. The incident is still under investigation.
The Brick Fire Safety Bureau reminded residents to utilize smoke alarms in every home, and that sprinkler systems are an additional layer of protection that can save lives.
