BRADY PENNSYLVANIA — A 55-year-old Brick Township woman faces criminal charges after authorities said her SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a motorcycle, killing two people in western Pennsylvania.

Bernadette Ann Cobb was traveling east on Route 219 in Brady, Clearfield County, on August 12 when her 2021 Nissan Rogue entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with a 2013 Harley-Davidson, according to court records and published reports.

The motorcycle operator, Anthony M. Sones, 34, and his passenger, Miranda S. Wormuth, 30, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Cobb allegedly told Pennsylvania State Police that an insect flew through an open window and caused her to panic. Investigators said she lowered her head and tried to swat the bug, losing control of the SUV.

A passenger in Cobb’s vehicle reportedly attempted to steer the SUV away from danger but could not prevent the collision.

Authorities said investigators found no evidence that Cobb was impaired.

Cobb is charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, as well as aggravated assault by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and several traffic violations.

She was initially detained at the Clearfield County Jail and later released after posting $100,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
