TOMS RIVER – In the ongoing effort to make sure no one goes hungry during the coronavirus pandemic, Operation Barbeque Relief will be returning to town on Saturday, April 10, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church located at 1070 Hooper Avenue.

The group is prepared to serve 500 hot meals to those in need. They will be following guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This means social distancing and limiting interactions. Families in need are invited to drive up, keep their windows closed, pop the trunk, and volunteers will put the food in your trunk or truck bed.

The event was coordinated by DRJ Catering and the Hope Center, a non-profit created by the Clergy Association of Greater Toms River.

This will be the fifth time Operation BBQ Relief has visited Toms River. They came after Superstorm Sandy, and also in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

David Keith, Area Coordinator for New Jersey, and owner of DRJ Catering said, “It is so great to be back for a fifth time serving this awesome community.  I wish this were not necessary but so glad we can be there to serve that one hot meal that matters over 500 times.  Thank you to the Hope Center and the Mayor’s office for all their assistance and support.”

“We are so grateful for DRJ Catering and Operation BBQ helping to feed our residents with a delicious barbecue meal as families continue to struggle because of COVID,” Councilwoman Maria Maruca said. “They have been a great partner with us in the past and I cannot thank them enough for their generosity to our community.”
