WOODLAND – An 84-year-old Toms River man died Saturday morning after his vehicle struck several roadside objects and a tree near a Burlington County traffic circle, authorities said.
Thomas M. Donato was traveling east on Route 70 shortly before entering the circle connecting routes 70 and 72 when he lost control around 6:30 a.m. on August 29, according to New Jersey State Police.
The vehicle left the roadway, jumped a curb and hit a directional sign before crossing through the circle’s travel lanes. Police said the car then veered off the pavement again, striking another curb and sign before crashing into a tree.
Donato was pronounced dead at the scene. State Police continue to investigate what caused the crash.
