LAKEWOOD – The owner of a school was charged by police for violating the state’s rules for letting some children play basketball in the gym.

Yosef M. Notis, 43, of Lakewood, was charged by the Lakewood Police Department for violating the emergency orders. He had let eight boys play basketball in the gym at his Oak Street school.

This was one of many arrests publicized by the Attorney General’s Office of people who violated the stay-at-home orders, including the owner of a barbershop in Dover, a party in Penns Grove, and a shoplifter in West Orange. There were also several charges against young people in Paterson for gathering on the streets “without an essential purpose, refusing to disperse, and failing to practice social distancing.”

The charges are merely accusations until proven guilty in a court of law.
