OCEAN COUNTY – A boating mishap near Barnegat Light ended safely after the U.S. Coast Guard helped a passenger and two dogs off a vessel that became stuck on a jetty.
Coast Guard officials were alerted to the situation at approximately 8:27 a.m. Sept. 5 after a nearby good Samaritan reported the grounded recreational boat to watchstanders in the Delaware Bay sector, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew West.
Personnel from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light headed to the scene aboard a 47-foot motor lifeboat. A private marine salvage crew also responded to assist with the stranded vessel.
Once alongside the boat, Coast Guard personnel brought the passenger and two dogs aboard the lifeboat. The vessel’s owner stayed with the boat as crews worked to bring it back to shore.
After the vessel reached land, water that had accumulated inside was pumped out. A commercial salvage company subsequently transported the boat to Holiday Harbor Marina.
Authorities said nobody was hurt during the incident.
