FREEHOLD – A Long Branch man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after shooting a man inside a restaurant.

In August of 2018, an alleged fight and shooting was reported inside the Bom DMais restaurant in Long Branch. Long Branch Police Officer George Samol responded to the scene and found two men and one woman wrestling. Miguel Camara, 42, of Long Branch, was holding a gun.

According to police, Officer Samol drew his duty weapon and ordered Camara to drop the weapon. The victim’s 18-year-old son was able to gain control over Camara’s gun, this resulting in Camara quickly turning to Officer Samol and trying to grab his duty weapon. Officer Samol then wrestled the gun from Camara and placed him under arrest. One of the victims, Marco Moreira, was found lying on the floor deceased.

After investigation, it was determined that Camara entered the Bom DMais restaurant and approached the table where his ex-girlfriend Fernanda Silva, her two children ages 18 and 5, and Marco Moreira were seated. Camara brought the Final Restraining Order attained by Silva, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Marco Moreira’s head multiple times before actually shooting him.

Camara was sentenced to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison with 38 and a half years of parole ineligibility. Camara had previously pled guilty to first degree Murder, first degree Attempted Murder, and third degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, for the killing of Marco Moreira, attempting to kill Fernanda Silva, and endangering the welfare of Silva’s 5-year-old child.
