LAKEHURST – Mold has closed Lakehurst Elementary School until further notice.

The announcement was posted to the Lakehurst Elementary School’s website.

“…mold was identified within the school building. We have taken all necessary steps and have a meeting scheduled with environmental specialists tomorrow to determine the action plan,” Lakehurst School Superintendent Loren Fuhring said.

While the school is closed, the Board of Education office is open for new and transfer student registrations.

“We will continue to update families and the community immediately as information becomes available via the emergency calling system and school website,” Fuhring said.

Emma Havens Young Elementary School in Brick Township also found mold recently. That school district put out a letter yesterday saying seven classrooms were impacted by the mold. The school fixed a faulty dehumidifying system in that part of the building, and is awaiting further test results about the mold.
