JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — Ahhh, the sounds of freedom in full force. Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst can expect a range of training-related noise during January 2026, according to a monthly noise calendar released by the installation.

The calendar outlines days when military training may generate low, moderate or high noise levels tied to weapons and aviation exercises conducted on base. Officials emphasize the schedule is intended to give surrounding communities advance notice of potential disruptions.

Low-noise days generally involve ground-based training with small arms and light crew-served weapons. Moderate-noise periods may include rotary-wing aircraft and aerial gunnery, while high-noise days are associated with heavy weapons training and munitions that create louder, more sustained sound.

Most days in January are expected to involve moderate training noise, with lower noise anticipated on a handful of dates early and late in the month. The base notes that noise levels may vary depending on weather conditions, as cloud cover can affect how far sound carries.

Military officials caution that training requirements and weather can lead to changes in the schedule with little notice. Noise may also be intermittent rather than continuous throughout the day.

Residents with questions or concerns about training activity are encouraged to contact the base’s public affairs office at 609-754-2575.
