LAKEHURST – Ahhhh those sounds of freedom in the same month that America marks 250 years. Residents near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst can expect more rumbling in July as military training brings several days of elevated noise.
The base released its July 2026 noise calendar, showing a mix of low, moderate and high noise days throughout the month. The loudest periods are expected July 9, 10, 17 through 31, when heavy crew weapons training, cratering munitions, mortar live fire and howitzer fire may be heard.
Moderate noise is expected on several other days, including July 1 through 3, 6 through 8, 11, and 13 through 16. Those days may include rotary wing aerial gunnery, .50-caliber weapons, rocket fire and rotary cannons.
Lower noise levels are listed for July 4, 5 and 12, with small arms and light crew weapons training possible.
Base officials noted that noise may not be constant and that weather, cloud cover and training needs can affect how far sound travels. The schedule is also subject to change.
