LAKEWOOD – Two township men were taken to the Ocean County Jail after police said an early-morning traffic stop led officers to suspected drugs and paraphernalia.
The stop happened at about 1:15 a.m. June 20 after a Lakewood officer saw a vehicle commit several traffic violations, police said.
During the stop, officers determined that one of the people in the vehicle had several outstanding warrants. A police K-9 was called to the scene and indicated there were controlled dangerous substances inside the vehicle, authorities said.
Police said a search turned up suspected crack cocaine, other suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Rondell Murray, 72, of Lakewood, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and also issued several motor vehicle summonses, police said.
Daniel Meadows, 42, of Lakewood, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Both men were brought to the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.
Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer credited the officers involved, saying proactive enforcement helps remove illegal drugs from the streets and protect the community.
The charges are accusations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
