PLUMSTED –  The township will hold its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Plumsted Municipal Building, 121 Evergreen Road, New Egypt.

The event is rain, snow or shine and will feature the New Egypt Volunteer Fire Company’s big red fire engine which will transport Santa Claus to his stop in the community.

Parents can have their children’s photo taken with Santa for free during the program and hot chocolate and cookies will be served. Residents are encouraged to bring their own ornament and help trim the township tree. Members of the Girl Scouts of Plumsted Township will be singing carols during the evening.

Non-perishable food items for the Plumsted Business Merchants Association’s food drive will be collected during the night.

The Plumsted Township Council for the Arts will be hosting a gingerbread contest from 6:30 to 8 p.m. immediately following the tree lighting ceremony.
