Pickup Truck Ends Up In The River

BRICK – What should have been a routine boat launch turned into a disaster for one man after his pickup truck ended up submerged in the Manasquan River.

The incident was first reported by Ocean County Scanner News and confirmed by Brick Township Police on Thursday night.

Brick Police Sargent James Kelly told Jersey Shore Online that the man was backing down the boat launch ramp to launch a trailered boat at Lightning Jack’s Marina on Ridge Road.

Kelly said “when the driver was backing the trailer into the water, he thought the boat was sliding off, so, believing he had placed the pickup truck in park, he exited the vehicle to check on the boat and trailer. When he got out of the pickup truck, it started to roll backwards further down the ramp.”

The man was not able to get back into the truck to hit the brakes. The truck, trailer and boat all went into the water.

Kelly added that the boat floated off the trailer. When officers arrived, the pickup was completely submerged.

Dive rescue and fire rescue teams responded along with a tow truck.

No one was injured and the boat and trailer didn’t sustain any damage.

The pickup truck was pulled out of the water and taken to a local garage.
