LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man was killed, with the driver fleeing on foot, around midnight May 27 at 140 Yale Drive.

Eduardo Paez-Lopez, 22, of Lakewood, was driving a 2005 Ford F150 without a license. He was traveling east on Yale Drive and failed to maintain his lane while attempting to make a 90-degree left turn. He lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree at the Yale Drive residence.

In the vehicle with him was 21-year-old Arturro Barraza of Brick and a 45-year-old man who was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and pronounced dead. Jersey Shore Online is withholding his name, as only a passport was found on him, and his next of kin have not yet been notified of his death.

Barraza, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, waited by the vehicle for police to arrive.

Lopez was later found by Lakewood Police on foot. Police said Lopez exhibited signs of impairment. Police were able to get a warrant for a blood sample. It was discovered that he was not the vehicle’s owner, and did not have a driver’s license.

Lopez was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident causing a fatality, and being unlicensed/suspended.
