JACKSON — Firefighters in the Cassville section of Jackson Township knocked down a house fire February 26 that broke out before sunrise, with everyone inside escaping safely and no injuries reported among emergency crews.

Fire units were sent to a two-story, wood-frame residence at approximately 5:58 a.m. following a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke venting from the eaves and quickly upgraded the incident to a working fire, prompting mutual aid from neighboring departments.

Assistance came from fire companies in New Egypt, Millstone, Upper Freehold, Freehold and Toms River. Mutual aid responders supported operations at the scene and provided station coverage while Jackson firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

The Cassville fire chief directed the response, which lasted about two hours before the fire was declared under control. Officials said all firefighters cleared the scene without injury.

Residents inside the home made it out safely before crews arrived. Jackson Emergency Medical Services transported them to a nearby hospital for evaluation as a precaution. Authorities said they were treated and released later that day. Jackson police also responded to assist with traffic control and scene security.

An investigation by the Jackson Fire Bureau and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the blaze was accidental. While the precise cause remains under investigation, officials said an electrical issue has not been ruled out.

Fire officials urged residents to ensure smoke detectors are properly installed and functioning.
