TOMS RIVER – An 82-year-old Toms River woman is dead after a head on crash Saturday afternoon.

Police say the woman was driving north on New Hampshire Avenue when a 33-year-old Brick Township man made a left turn, striking her vehicle in the process.

Several police and medical units were sent to the scene. The woman, who’s identity is being withheld pending family notification, had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Silverton Fire department.

She was pronounced at the hospital.

No word on the condition of the driver in the other vehicle or if there are charges pending. The road had been closed for a few hours during the cleanup and initial investigation.

A full probe is being conducted by Officer Terry Warren.

A short time after that crash, another accident occurred in Toms River, this time in the Silverton section of town.

Police say the driver of a Jeep was heading east on Maine Street when she allegedly didn’t stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Brand Road and Maine, striking another vehicle heading south before crashing into a home on Brand Road.

Neither the 41-year-old Belleville woman in the Jeep or the 46-year-old woman from Freehold in the other car were injured.

The Toms River Building Inspector had given the home, which suffered only minor damage, a clean bill of health for the residents to stay.
