TOMS RIVER — Drivers were urged to avoid the intersection of Route 70 and Whitesville Road after a tractor-trailer struck power lines Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 10:58 a.m. when a white semi-truck hauling a lowboy trailer carrying a forklift was traveling north on Whitesville Road, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Facebook post.
The truck hit power lines near the Route 70 intersection, knocking them to the ground and prompting an emergency response.
Utility and emergency crews were working to secure the area, remove the hazard and restore electrical service. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes and use caution near the scene.
Authorities warned residents not to touch, move or drive over fallen wires because they should always be considered energized.
