Toms River Police Probe Pedestrian Crash

TOMS RIVER – Toms River Police are still investigating a crash involving a pedestrian struck on Route 9 Tuesday.

Authorities said a 60-year-old Toms River man, Michael S. Goldberg, was struck while trying to cross the northbound lane of Route 9, south of Route 70. He stepped into the path of a vehicle driven by 81-year-old Samuel Mauro of Manchester.

Police said Goldberg was not using a crosswalk to cross Route 9.

“He improperly crossed the roadway and additionally failed to yield the right away to Mr. Mauro, causing the collision,” Toms River Police said.

Goldberg is listed in critical but stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Goldberg is a resident of the Dover Woods Health Care Center.

Police said there was no evidence of impairment. There were no other injuries. No charges have been filed.
