TOMS RIVER – A 17-year-old Toms River teen remains in critical condition after he was thrown from a motorcycle while riding on Route 37.

Toms River Police said Dawson Palmarini was operating the Honda CBR Saturday morning when he struck an Acura making a right turn onto Gary Road from 37.

Spokesperson Jillian Messina said that Palmarini was thrown from the motorcycle, was unconscious when police arrived and rescue breathing was performed at the scene. He was then airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center In Neptune.

Palmarini was charged with reckless driving and improper passing after witnesses said he was passing vehicles on the shoulder due to heavy summer tourism traffic.

Although the driver of the Acura, 22-year-old Brian Bucci of Saugerties NY, was not at fault, he was driving a vehicle with a suspended license out of New York and charged with Being Involved in a Motorvehicle Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and released on a summons.

The accident is being investigated by Toms River Police Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen.
