TOMS RIVER – Family and friends of the Toms River teen who passed away in a fatal motorcycle accident last week have created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for his funeral expenses.

The GoFundMe site states: “On May 9 our friend Christian Atehortua passed away due to a motorcycle accident at the age of 18. He was loved by all of his friends and peers and lived his life to the fullest. If you have ever talked to him you would know that he was always happy and had a positive outlook on everything. We as his friends and as a community would like to help the family with funeral and medical expenses. Any donation helps. Thank you for all the support.”

The fundraising campaign has brought in $11,909 of the $20,000 goal as of May 13.

Atehortua, 18, was riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Schenk’s Mill Line Road and Darren Street at approximately 8:10 p.m. on May 8 when the incident occurred. Police believe he lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle.

EMS and police personnel responded to the scene and Atehortua was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment, however, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Atehortua was a student at Toms River High School North, on track to graduate in just six weeks.
