ISLAND HEIGHTS — Firefighters quickly extinguished a vehicle fire early this morning on Lake Avenue, preventing damage to a nearby construction trailer and an occupied home, authorities said.

Island Heights fire crews were dispatched around 2:20 a.m. to reports of a working vehicle fire that was burning next to a construction trailer with a residence close by. Chief 5300 arrived on scene and directed Engine 5311 to deploy a hand line to knock down the flames while protecting the nearby house from potential fire spread.

Engine 5301 established a water supply from a nearby hydrant to support firefighting operations. Crews were able to bring the fire under control in a short time, limiting damage to the vehicle involved. No damage was reported to the trailer or the home.

The Island Heights Police Department and the Island Heights Volunteer First Aid Squad also responded. After the fire was extinguished, the Island Heights Department of Public Works treated the roadway with salt due to icy conditions created by water used during the response.

No injuries were reported.
