Route 72 Pedestrian Crash Leaves One Injured

STAFFORD – A 21-year-old woman remains in serious condition after she was struck by a car while attempting to cross Route 72 on Labor Day morning.

The Stafford Township Police Department confirmed the crash took place shortly after midnight on Route 72 and Marsha Drive.

Police said the investigation revealed that 27-year-old Kathryn Loftus of Harvey Cedars was traveling east in the right lane of 72 in her Honda CRV when she struck Alexa Paradiso of Oakland, New Jersey.

According to authorities, Paradiso and a group of friends were attempting to cross Route 72 at Marsha Drive into Beach Haven West.

Paradiso was flown to Atlantic City Trauma Center for extensive head and external/internal injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Stafford Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

No charges have been filed against Loftus as a result of this investigation.

The department was assisted by Stafford Township Volunteer EMS.

Route 72 eastbound was completely closed down for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and traffic was diverted through Beach Haven West.
