BARNEGAT – Barnegat Township Police released details about the incident that led to damage at the historic Cox House on Route 9.

Barnegat Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Ryan said that around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Chun Chen, 37, was driving his 2004 silver Toyota Camry when his rear passenger tire blew out. His car struck the curb, fence and a bush.

He backed up his vehicle and then moved forward, striking a 2018 black Porsche driven by 68-year-old Barnegat resident George Denardo, which was stopped in traffic, Ryan said.

Chen’s vehicle then backed into the front yard of 353 North Main St., the Cox House, and hit the front porch.

Chen then pulled his car back out onto the road and struck a 2010 red Ford F150 driven by John Wilusz, 26, of South Amboy.

Chen proceeded to hit a street sign before leaving the scene of the accident, coming to a stop in front of 335 S. Main St. due to mechanical failure.

Chen was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and careless driving.
