BARNEGAT – Police said that the death of a local man was the result of the man accidentally shooting himself.
James Hammer, 46, of Barnegat accidentally shot himself while disassembling a firearm, according to a release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. The incident happened on March 9.
He had been taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford Township and then flown to Atlanticare Regional Trauma Center in Atlantic City. He succumbed to his injuries at around midnight.
