Online Sale Turns Out To Be Fraud

Lacey Police

LACEY – A Lacey resident reported an incident of fraud to the police when he became suspicious of an online merchandise exchange.

On May 3, the resident told police that he received an offer for outdoor furniture that he was selling on Craigslist. The buyer sent the resident a check via overnight mail for the furniture in the mail that indicated a price much higher than the asking price, requesting that the extra money be used to foot the bill for the moving company to transport the furniture.

The resident became suspicious of the buyer’s intentions, and later discovered that the check came from an Oklahoma bank that had no record of the account.
