BARNEGAT – A former employee at a marina in Barnegat admitted to stealing $108,415 from the business over the course of four years, officials said.

Lisa Dowd, 52, of Barnegat, pleaded guilty to theft on March 21. According to officials, Dowd forged numerous checks from the marina bank accounts from early 2018 to the end of 2021.

Dowd wrote some of the forged checks to herself and deposited them in her personal checking account and used to pay for her utilities and her personal credit card bill, officials said.

On November 23, 2022, Dowd surrendered herself at Barnegat Township Police Headquarters, where she was processed and charged on a summons pending future appearances in Ocean County Superior Court. She currently faces three years in State prison. Dowd is also required to make restitution to the victim in the amount of $108,415.
