LACEY – Oyster Creek Generating Station may now be closed, but that does not mean that it is the end. Following the closure of a power plant is the decommissioning process which is now underway.

On Nov. 19, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a webinar to provide interested members of the public another opportunity to comment on decommissioning community advisory board best practices.

The webinar will begin at 1 p.m. EST. Participants will be able to view slides prepared by NRC staff and ask verbal and written questions via a web page set up to host the session. Online registration is required to participate.

As of January this year, under the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act, the NRC is required to prepare a report for Congress identifying best practices for the establishment and operation of local community advisory boards in communities near decommissioning nuclear power plants.

A kickoff webinar was held on August 8, 2019 and the NRC hosted 11 public meetings around the country beginning between late August and mid-October to supplement this report.
