STAFFORD – There were some tense moments this afternoon in Manahawkin after a phoned-in bomb threat to the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission caused the evacuation of the facility and other businesses in the plaza.

Stafford Township Police were called to the shopping center at 712 East Bay Avenue a little after 3:30 p.m on Monday, November 27.

Upon responding, patrol units cleared the building and surrounding businesses as a precaution.

In addition to Stafford Police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Deptartment K-9 Unit and a Beach Haven Police Department K-9 Unit responded.

The DMV and surrounding buildings were searched and cleared of any threat by K-9 units.

Following the search, businesses resumed normal operation although the Starlight Performing Arts Academy canceled classes for the evening.

So far, there are no suspects and the probe is ongoing by the Stafford Township Detective Bureau.
