LACEY — Authorities have identified a 39-year-old Forked River man who died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Lanoka Harbor, police said.

Officers responded around 7:52 a.m. April 8 to the intersection of Lake Barnegat Drive North and Haines Street after receiving a report that a vehicle had gone through a residential fence and struck a tree, according to the Lacey Township Police Department.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver, identified as Eric Olesen, dead at the scene. Responders included Lanoka Harbor EMS and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics.

A preliminary investigation found that Olesen had been traveling east on Haines Street before turning onto Lake Barnegat Drive North. The vehicle then left the roadway, crashed through a fence at a nearby residence, entered the backyard and collided with a tree, police said.

No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved with the incident.

The department’s Fatal Accident Support Team, along with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, assisted in the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by Officer Tyler Walsh. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 609-693-6636, ext. 2714, or email twalsh@laceypd.org
