STAFFORD — A routine pedestrian stop in Stafford Township led to the arrest of a New York man on drug charges, authorities said.

Members of the Stafford Township Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit stopped a man shortly after noon on February 21 near the intersection of Route 72 and the Route 9 overpass. During the encounter, officers identified the individual as 31-year-old Tyler R. Friedenthal of Freeport, New York.

Police said an investigation at the scene resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia. Authorities also determined that Friedenthal was wanted on an outstanding warrant issued by the Jersey City Municipal Court.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to police headquarters for processing.

Friedenthal was charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering his own apprehension, a disorderly persons offense.

After processing, he was lodged in the Ocean County Jail, where he is being held pending a detention hearing in Ocean County Superior Court.
