BRICK — A coordinated search involving local police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office led to the safe recovery of a man in crisis after he fled into a wooded area, authorities said.
Officers responded to the Midstreams section after receiving a report that the man had threatened to harm himself before leaving his home. Investigators quickly determined he had entered nearby woods, prompting a large-scale search effort.
Police were joined by sheriff’s officers using K-9 units and aerial drones, along with additional drone support and officers searching on foot. Crews navigated challenging conditions that included dense forest, thick brush covered in thorns, swampy terrain and creek beds.
During the operation, the man attempted to avoid detection by hiding and moving through the woods. Authorities said coordinated efforts between ground teams and aerial units ultimately led to his location.
The man was taken into custody without injury and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The search began around 7 a.m. and concluded about four hours later. Officials credited the teamwork and persistence of all agencies involved in bringing the situation to a safe resolution.
