BARNEGAT LIGHT – A man was airlifted to a hospital after two boats collided Friday about 10 miles off the coast of Barnegat Light, authorities said.
TowBoat U.S. Barnegat Light & Beach Haven responded on July 31 and located a 32-foot research vessel and a 33-foot Grady-White that were both taking on water. Crews used pumps to remove water and keep the vessels afloat.
Four people were aboard the two boats at the time of the crash. One man suffered injuries to his arm and head, according to U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew West who spoke to NJ.com.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew transported the injured man to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus for treatment.
TowBoat U.S. later towed both damaged vessels to Long Key Marina in Waretown.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
