OCEAN COUNTY — A fundraiser has been organized to support the family of Gunnar Pearson, a Barnegat High School graduate, Ship Bottom lifeguard and military reservist who died after a boating accident during Memorial Day weekend.
Pearson was spending the holiday with family when the accident occurred, according to the fundraiser. His death has left his loved ones grieving what organizers described as an “immeasurable void.”
Pearson is survived by his longtime partner, Kayla; his parents, Jennifer and Gary Pearson; his brother, Colby Pearson; and many relatives and friends.
Organizers described Pearson as friendly, respectful and generous, with a strong sense of humor. He loved track, fishing, his country and spending time with those closest to him.
Pearson also served in the National Guard and more recently as an Army reservist. He was remembered as an active member of the community whose kindness made a lasting impression on those who knew him.
The fundraiser will help Pearson’s parents, Jennifer and Gary Pearson, with medical expenses, household bills and the cost of a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
Organizers are asking the public to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn. Donations of any amount are being accepted, and those unable to contribute are encouraged to share the fundraiser.
