Double-Fatal Crash On Parkway Under Probe

BARNEGAT – New Jersey State Police are investigating a tragic accident on the Garden State Parkway that killed two people on New Year’s Day.

The crash around 7:45 a.m. closed the northbound side of the parkway near mile marker 68.1 for several hours during the initial probe and cleanup.

Sgt. Philip Curry told Jersey Shore Online via email that the victim’s ID’s are pending and that it appears two vehicles were involved in the crash. 

According to Curry, one of the vehicles involved was driving south in a northbound lane.

The crash involved a vehicle fire and an overturned vehicle.

Authorities sent out an alert urging the public to avoid the area of mile marker 69 on the northbound side.
