Contractors Caught Taking Payments For Unfinished Jobs

  LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP – Police have placed two local contractors in custody following separate incidents in which they were taking full payments for unfinished projects on Long Beach Island, according to police.

  On August 30, Long Beach Township Police Department received a report of contractor theft that occurred in Brant Beach. Police discovered that James Feliciano of J. Feliciano Custom Carpentry LLC had entered into a contract to complete home improvements and deposited $5,999 in checks from the homeowner while only completing minimal work. Feliciano failed to complete the improvements.

  On Oct.23, 2019, Feliciano was placed in custody and he was issued a summons for one count theft and two counts of home improvement contractor law. Feliciano was processed and released with a future court date.

  On Sept. 5, Long Beach Township Police received another report of contractor theft, this time in Barnegat Light. Police discovered that William Pendergast of P&R Plumbing had entered a contract to complete home improvements in Barnegat Light and deposited a $7,000 check from the homeowner while only completing minimal work. Pendergast failed to complete the improvements, said police.

  On Oct. 15, Pendergast was placed in custody and he was issued a summons for two counts theft and five counts of home improvement contractor law. Pendergast was processed and released with a future court date.
