Coast Guard Makes Rescue After Boat Runs Aground

BARNEGAT LIGHT – A 62-year-old man had to be rescued by the Coast Guard after his boat ran aground in the Barnegat Bay.

Coast Guard officials said the man suffered injuries to his ribs and arm while onboard his 33-foot pleasure craft in the Oyster Creek Channel near Barnegat Light on August 7.

According to a news release, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received the initial report through VHF Channel 16 from a grounded boater requesting medical attention.

A boatcrew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light was launched to assist and a Special Marine Information Broadcast was issued for the area.

The man was transported by EMS via medical chopper to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment.
