Armed Juvenile Arrested After Attempted Carjacking

LITTLE EGG HARBOR – A juvenile male remains locked up after allegedly attempting to rob an Ocean County park security guard at knife-point.

Little Egg Harbor Township Police confirm the incident happened Thursday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. at the Freedom Recreational Fields on Route 539. Officers were called to the scene after the security guard reported an unknown male approached his vehicle, brandished a knife and demanded his vehicle. The guard was able to pull away without incident and the suspect took off into the woods.

Police said K-9 officer Brian Smith arrived with his partner “Hooks” and set up a perimeter. A search found the male who tried to run from the police. Officers were able to apprehend him.

The juvenile was taken into custody. Police found him with the knife that the security guard had seen. He has been charged with Carjacking, Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose.

The juvenile was transported to a secure facility where he is being held.
