BRICK – A 14-year-old remains in custody after allegedly stabbing a man to death in the township, according to police.
Ocean County County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Brick Township Chief of Police James Riccio said the 14 year-old is being held in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center following his arrest in the January 16th murder of 38-year-old Mohammed Khater.
Authorities say Township Police responded to a house near Herbertsville Road in the township around 2:45 Saturday following a 911 call.
Officers found Khater with a stab wound to the right side of his abdomen. He was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he died from his injuries.
Police say because the teen responsible is a minor, they will not release the identity or provide any more information about the incident.
The juvenile has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
In a joint press release, Prosecutor Billhimer and Chief Riccio are grateful for the hard work and collaborative efforts of all law enforcement personnel involved in this thorough investigation leading to the juvenile suspect’s apprehension, including officers and detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Brick Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
The press and public are reminded that all defendants are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
