JERSEY SHORE — Ryan Fisher and Kyle Rumaker completed a demanding rowing expedition along the Jersey Shore, traveling from the Cape May Lighthouse to the Statue of Liberty while raising money for coastal preservation and a lifeguard scholarship.

The pair generated more than $13,000 in donations during the journey, according to a social media post from Fisher’s family.

A portion of the proceeds will support the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association, a national nonprofit that promotes shoreline protection and restoration through scientific research, responsible coastal management and public education.

Funds will also establish a college scholarship for one or more members of the Upper Township Beach Patrol. Fisher and Rumaker, who served as lifeguards together for eight years, will select recipients who demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting local beaches and receive recommendations from their peers.

Family members followed the rowers along the coast and celebrated as they reached their destination, completing a challenge that combined physical endurance with support for causes closely connected to their years on the beach patrol.
