JERSEY SHORE — Ocean and Monmouth counties have entered into a shared services agreement designed to expand commercial driver training while allowing both governments to use existing resources at no additional cost.
The Ocean County Board of County Commissioners approved the agreement July 8, followed by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners on July 16.
Under the partnership, Ocean County will provide Commercial Driver’s License training for Monmouth County employees. In exchange, Ocean County workers will be able to use Monmouth County’s virtual driving and heavy equipment simulators.
Ocean County Commissioner Director Frank Sadeghi said the agreement will expand access to training tools and expertise while maintaining high standards for county employees.
“This agreement is an example of how collaboration between local governments aims to improve services and deliver greater value for the taxpayers,” Sadeghi said.
Ocean County operates an in-house CDL program that includes classroom lessons, behind-the-wheel instruction and road testing.
Ocean County Commissioner Ray Gormley said sharing resources should help reduce training expenses and prepare qualified drivers to support roadwork and other public services.
Monmouth County’s training facilities include simulators that allow employees to practice operating graders, loaders, backhoes and excavators in realistic scenarios. Officials said the controlled environment helps trainees develop skills and confidence before using full-size equipment.
Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said the arrangement allows both counties to share specialized equipment, employees and training capabilities while improving efficiency.
“This partnership reflects our continued commitment to finding innovative, cost-effective ways to deliver essential services,” Arnone said.
