Ocean County Man Charged In Jackson Shooting

  LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in Jackson on December 29, 2019.

  Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that 27-year old Maleek Dorsey was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose. Dorsey was arrested on Dec. 30.

  On Dec. 29, Jackson Police responded to the area of Jackson Crossing Plaza after multiple 9-1-1 calls reported gunshots being fired. While securing the scene, Jackson Police received word from Lakewood Police that two men were admitted to the Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.

  The two gunshot victims were then transported to Robert Wood Johnson Memorial Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

  Further investigation identified Dorsey in the shooting. On December 30, 2019, the Lakewood Township SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Lakewood where Dorsey was apprehended.

  Dorsey was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.
