New Information In Case Of Child Bringing Gun To School

LAKEWOOD – Police are continuing to investigate an incident in which a child brought a loaded gun to an elementary school, while a parent has told the media that his child was also involved and was being punished for something he didn’t do.

The incident took place the morning of June 5, when a 9-year-old student brought a loaded .22 caliber handgun in a backpack. He reportedly brought the gun in to shoot another student. He was apprehended by school security and there were no injuries.

Now, a father of a 10-year-old student told WNBC-TV News 4 New York that his son was also being charged with weapons because the gun was put in his backpack by the 9-year-old.

The incident led to an emergency meeting this morning involving the Lakewood Board of Education where it was decided to start using metal detectors in all of Lakewood’s elementary schools.
