LAKEWOOD – Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday night, Jan. 14, on Route 70 in Lakewood.
William Fernando Campo Verde, 29, of Lakewood Township was struck by a 56-year old driver from Whiting in a 2017 Nissan Altima near Vermont Avenue. Verde was attempting to cross Route 70 outside of the bounds of the crosswalk when he was hit and sustained a major head injury, said Lakewood Police officials.
After being transported to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus Hospital, Verde unfortunately passed.
Police continue to investigate the crash. No summons has been issued yet.
