PLUMSTED – Authorities have identified that human remains that were discovered in Plumsted Township on April 9 as 37-year-old Joseph Izquierdo of Egg Harbor.
On that day, police received a 911 call regarding human remains found in a wooded area about one-quarter mile from Route 528. Officials said that the remains were in advanced stages of decomposition.
The New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit and a Forensic Odontologist examined that remains and on May 24, the results were reviewed by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office positively identifying Izquierdo.
At this time, the cause and manner of death is unknown and is under investigation.

Billhimer acknowledges the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Plumsted Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, New Jersey State Police Forensic Anthropology Unit, Federal Bureau of Investigation K-9 Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance with this investigation.
