LAKEWOOD — A Howell man faces multiple weapons, drug and assault charges after police said he fled officers following a report of gunfire and crashed into another vehicle.
Lakewood police responded to the High Point Apartment Complex at about 5 p.m. July 22 after receiving reports of shots fired.
Toms River police officers spotted a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident leaving the area and attempted to stop it, authorities said. The driver allegedly refused to pull over, prompting a brief pursuit involving officers from both departments.
The vehicle eventually crashed into an uninvolved vehicle, injuring its driver, police said. The injured motorist was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the suspect then ran from the crash scene but was quickly arrested near Chestnut Street and Vine Avenue.
Timothy Moore-Jackson, 29, of Howell, was charged with eluding, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute.
He was taken to the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.
Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer credited cooperation among the responding agencies with helping officers make a quick arrest and prevent additional danger to the public.
The investigation involved the Lakewood and Toms River police departments, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit.
