SEASIDE PARK – Beachgoers might have done a double take after spotting “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe filming a new movie along the Jersey Shore.
Radcliffe was in Seaside Park on July 30 shooting scenes for the upcoming espionage thriller “Trust the Man,” which also stars actor Jonathan Groff.
Production crews transformed portions of the boardwalk and beachfront near the Charlroy Motel into a movie set. Filming also took place near The Sawmill and the Decatur Avenue beach area, according to Seaside Park police.
Radcliffe posed for a photograph with local police officers who assisted with security, traffic and crowd control during the production.
“Overall, it was a great experience,” Seaside Park Police Sgt. Andrew Casole told Jersey Shore Online. “Mr. Radcliffe was very friendly and polite. He signed some autographs and took a few fan photos, and people were appreciative of his time.”
Casole said Radcliffe’s security team kept the actor moving between filming locations and his trailer, limiting the amount of time he could spend with fans.
“All the staff and film crew were great and worked hard,” Casole said. “There were lots of moving parts that all came together well.”
The production was filmed in an area that remained open to the public, requiring officers to secure a large section of the beachfront while managing summer traffic and crowds.
“Our officers did a tremendous job with traffic and crowd control,” Casole said. “It all ran smoothly with no incidents.”
The production brought trailers, catering services, makeup crews, lighting equipment, cameras and other resources to the borough. Filmmakers also rented the borough’s entire municipal parking lot No. 2 to support the operation, Casole said.
“It was interesting to get an inside look at the filming process and inner workings with all the cameras, lights and sound equipment,” Casole said. “It was a nice change of pace doing something like this in the summertime, and we would definitely welcome this experience again.”
“Trust the Man” follows an Army intelligence officer investigating the secretive background of a decorated soldier during the Vietnam War.
Radcliffe and Groff were also seen filming scenes in Montclair earlier in July.
