Newark Airport Shut Down Due To Emergency, Operations Resume

NEW JERSEY – An emergency situation at Newark Liberty International Airport caused the closure of all runways Saturday morning, according to state and local authorities.

As of 9:50 a.m, normal operations began to resume but some flights will be delayed as a result.

According to a tweet on the Breaking Aviation News Twitter feed, Air Transat flight #TS942 Boeing 737-800 C-GTQG from Montreal to Fort Lauderdale has made an emergency landing at New York Newark airport after indication of fire onboard. Passengers evacuated using slides. 

Passengers flying in or out of the airport are advised to contact their airlines for flight status updates. According to the FAA, delays are likely.

The airport Twitter announced that flights were resuming.
