Duo Steals Prescription Drugs From Local Medical Center

SHREWSBURY – Two sisters from Atlantic County have been charged with stealing prescription drugs from a medical facility in Shrewsbury, officials said.

Deborah Baskerville, 38, of Galloway was charged with third-degree Impersonation Under a False Identity, third-degree Unlicensed Practice of Medicine Under a False Identity, third-degree Theft by Deception, third-degree Theft of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, fourth-degree Unlicensed Practice of Medicine, and fourth-degree Conspiracy to Commit Theft by Deception. Shonte Hall, 36, of Egg Harbor City is charged with Conspiracy to Commit Theft by Deception and Conspiracy to Commit Unlicensed Practice of Medicine, fourth-degree crimes.

The theft in question took place on October 31, 2023 at Complete Care, a Skilled Nursing Facility in Shrewsbury.

According to officials, Baskerville was using Hall’s identity and nursing license to work a shift. She then took 10 oxycodone pills valued at about $200 from a locked medicine cart and replaced them with allergy pills.

In early February 2024, Baskerville turned herself in to authorities, followed by Hall several weeks later. Both defendants had first appearances in Monmouth County Superior Court last week and were released on their own recognizance pending future court proceedings.

Authorities believe Baskerville may have been engaged in similar conduct at other medical facilities across the state in late 2023 – as Hall worked for a nursing company that outsources its services as needed.

Anyone with information about the activities of these defendants is being asked to contact Sgt. DeCristofaro at 732-741-2500, ext. 230.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
