RED BANK — Authorities are investigating the deaths of a woman and child found inside a borough apartment Thursday morning.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Red Bank Police Department said the Major Crimes Bureau is leading the investigation but emphasized there is no threat to the public.

The victims were discovered October 30 at a residence in the Springview Gardens condominium complex at 293 Spring Street, officials said. Redbankgreen.com was the first media outlet to report the incident, citing neighbors who said a resident came home to find two family members dead.

Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago and Police Chief Michael Frazee released a joint statement Friday confirming the investigation. The prosecutor’s office identified the victims only as an adult female and a juvenile.

Officials have not released information on the cause or manner of death.

Red Bank Borough Schools Superintendent Jared Rumage notified parents Friday that one of the victims was a student at Red Bank Primary School.

“Our entire school community is grieving this loss,” Rumage wrote in a letter to families. “As a community, we share in this loss and will lean on one another for comfort and strength.” Counselors and crisis response professionals will be available for students and staff “for as long as needed,” Rumage added.

The Major Crimes Bureau continues to work with Red Bank Police.

No additional details were released as the investigation remains active.
