LAKEHURST — A pedestrian was injured late January 27 after being struck by a pickup truck whose driver fled the scene in Lakehurst, authorities said.
Police were called around 10:05 p.m. to the intersection of Center Street and Hibernia Avenue after receiving reports of a vehicle striking a person and leaving the area, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Investigators determined the victim had been walking southbound on Center Street when he was hit from behind by an unidentified pickup truck described as light gray or silver. The driver continued traveling south without stopping to provide assistance or contact police, officials said.
The injured pedestrian was taken by emergency responders to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was treated for injuries. His condition was listed as stable.
The case is being handled by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit Vehicular Homicide Squad, the Lakehurst Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. Authorities said a photograph released in connection with the case shows the best available image of the suspect vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Sgt. Anthony Carrington III at 732-929-2027, ext. 3257.
